new delhi: the mcd has stoutly refused to sign a memorandum of understanding with the delhi government. while city mayor shanti desai said the delhi government has no authority to insist on a mou while municipal commissioner sp aggarwal says that "we effectively have an mou with the government." desai said: "the delhi government does not have the authority to stop our funds.
if they try to do so, we have the resources to fight it out. i would suggest that saathi uses his energies on constructive things. there is simply no question of signing an mou for money which belongs to us." the mayor said he will give a fitting reply to the delhi government's tactics. desai said: "i am going abroad for a few days after which i will hold a press conference." aggarwal said: "we have an action plan and fiscal targets of which we give the details to the city government. if the government wants to make changes in the format, we will agree to it." chairman standing committee prithviraj sawhney said: "i had written to the delhi government to bring out a survey report of their schools along with ours. but they did not pay heed to my suggestion and neither did they conduct a survey of their schools. the report on the schools is a politically fabricated report." leader of the mcd house, mahesh chander sharma said: "the delhi government is like a post office and they should act like one. the truth is the city government does not give us the money on time and then blames us. the plight of their schools is worse than ours and therefore the government did not survey their schools." sharma said: "there is a shortage of 5,000 teachers in delhi government's senior secondary schools. despite the government controlling the delhi subordinate service selection and board they have not been able to fill up their vacancies and have caused a deficit of 2,400 teachers in our schools also."
